1.The White Ring
The large White Ring around the crest represents all students, white through brown belt in rank.

The Black Ring
The thin Black Ring within the White Ring represents the potential in every white belt to become a Black Belt.

The Black Background
The Black area on the inside of the circle represents all the Black Belts. It is larger, because as a student of karate you will spend more time as a black belt in your training. There’s less black area near the bottom to signify the lesser number of high-ranking black belts.

The Red Ring
The Red Ring represents the Master Rank. Butokukan presently has only one master,
Grand Master Robert Hill.

The Seiken
The Seiken (fore fist) was chosen by Late Grandmaster Yoichi Nakachi to represent all of the body weapons, from the head to feet, because it is the most commonly used of all the body weapons.
